Blog Journal #2
I have used Microsoft word as a student a lot. Throughout my schooling I have used it for various assignments and notes. I have discovered that I like google docs much more than I like Microsoft word. This is predominately because I am a very forgetful person and with google docs it saves automatically. This way I can ensure that all my hard work is being saved.
The ISTE standard for educators that is the most important to me is "Educators inspire students to positively contribute to, and responsibly participate to the digital world". To me this standard means that we as teachers are responsible for keeping our kids up to date digitally. We are also responsible for making sure that they understand what is going on in the world around them. It is so important for k-12 educators because one of our main jobs is making sure that our students can one day be capable of thriving in the real world.
I have mixed feelings about being a digital native in todays youth, because everyone grew up differently. Sure there is technology all around us, but there are also so many people who make sure that is not a top priority in their life. There are also people who simply do not have the funds to live a life as a true digital native. I have definitely seen differences between me as a digital native and my teachers as digital immigrants. My teachers sometimes have a hard time navigating various apps or websites. For instance, when we first went digital due to covid-19 a lot of my teachers had a very hard time figuring out zoom. I believe that my future students and I will also have a big divide digitally. I am sure that there are going to be a lot more products that come out that I will have no idea how to use.
I think that badges are a nice incentive, and that they help people want to achieve specific goals more. I used to earn badges when I was a Girl Scout. We would do specific things that would allow us to earn a badge. I remember it made me feel really good. If I had the opportunity to share my badge I defiantly would. I love helping people, sometimes more than helping myself, so if giving away one of my badges, even if I worked hard on it, would put a smile on someone else's face, I would do it in a heartbeat.
