Hi! My name is Samantha Cohen. I am a freshman here at Florida State University.  My major is Special Education. I have a twin sister who is majoring in pre-optometry at the University of Alabama. I also have a younger brother who is a senior in high school. My mom is a school social worker, and my dad is a civil engineer. I have a dog who is half Chihuahua and half Dachshund. Her name is Maggie. I like to sing, hang out with friends, and watch Disney Pixar movies.

I don't have many prior experiences using technology in an education setting besides what I did in my EDF 1005 class, which is introduction to education, in the fall semester. We made PowerPoints using google slides and Microsoft powerpoint. We also created a timeline using canva. Finally, we accessed various readings through canvas. Additionally we uploaded a few different videos to YouTube.

A personal learning network of mine is singing. I really enjoy singing, it is one of my favorite things to do. Some learning resources that I use online are YouTube and zoom or FaceTime. I use YouTube to watch videos to find new songs or learn new techniques. I use zoom or FaceTime to observe voice lessons, or have my own. Offline, I can watch my friends or family sing. I can also attend master classes or shows in person.

  1. Hi Samantha! It is good to know that you have some foundational knowledge of the tools we will be using. In this course, I hope you will gain some new understanding of these tools that you are already familiar with and pedagogies for integrating those tools in classrooms.

In terms of singing, what kind of music do you sing?

  2. Hi Samantha! I am also a Special Education major. I will be applying to the program soon and I am super excited. As someone who also took EDF 1005, it was definitely cool to see how we could use programs like Canva to make interesting and engaging projects.

Would you ever think of singing as a career?
